How to remove audio from video on any device

Since the rise of smartphones, capturing and sharing videos has become a common phenomenon, and why shouldn’t it. Smartphone cameras are improving with each generation, with the best of them even allowing to record videos in 4K resolution. However, there is a slight downside to recording videos, and that’s the audio that comes with it. Audio captured with your smartphone is just plain bad, there aren’t two ways to do it. Add this to the fact that sometimes you can capture a piece of audio you didn’t intend, and that can be really embarrassing. As a general rule, it’s best to remove the original audio unless it’s really necessary. So if your audio is preventing you from showing your videos to the world, here is how to remove audio from video on any device.

Remove audio from video file

The process of removing audio from any video file will depend on the device or rather the operating system you are using. Also, you can use multiple methods on the same operating system. For this article, we will cover a method for macOS, iOS, Android and Windows operating systems. I selected the methods based on their simplicity and the type of software needed. So let’s get started, shall we?

  • Remove audio from video file on macOS

One thing I really like about Apple’s operating system is that it already comes with great top-notch software that lets you get things done as soon as you unbox your Mac. The most popular and most used are the native Mail app, the Notes app, the entire iWork Suite and so on. Likewise, Apple also includes basic video editing software that comes pre-installed with your Mac called iMovie. While iMovie can’t compete with full-featured video editors, you just need to do some basic editing like removing the audio from the video. So, let’s see how we can do that.

1. Launch iMovie and import your video by clicking the import button and then selecting your video.

two. Right click (control+click)on the imported video and select the entire clip.

If somehow you still don’t have it, click on the link to download it.

1. Launch the VLC application and click on “Media” option in the upper left corner. In the resulting drop-down menu, click “Convert/Save”.
